SP Educator Education Opportunities

Training and Using Standardized Patients for Teaching and Assessment

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

This workshop is designed to teach participants to recruit, train, and supervise the performance of standardized patients (SPs) for both teaching and assessment, as well as to develop cases and training materials. It focuses on basic SP training skills, case and checklist development, and program management and includes sessions on research and the history of SPs. The workshop will be largely experiential with participants actively training SPs and writing cases.  The workshop will culminate on the final day with a dry run of the cases developed during the workshop.  It runs 4.5 days and is offered annually in late April, with program information  posted in February.
